How Trauma Works
Traumatic events happen all around us all the time, though they vary in intensity, how they affect individuals, and so much more.
Trauma is not the even itself, but the lasting impact and effect on each individual, as well as group demographics and the human collective as a whole.
We can categorize trauma as Simple Trauma, Complex Trauma, Developmental Trauma, and Vicarious Trauma. One traumatic event, series of connected events, or ongoing traumatic or toxic situations can all span over multiple types of trauma.
If we do not have the tools, resources, and support, we will not process the trauma in a way that allows us to integrate the experience and allow it to shape up into a stronger and more compassionate person. Instead, we can suffer a plethora of mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and even financial diseases and struggles.
It starts with the body- what we don't process, integrate, and release gets stuck in the body.
This is a major problem because the body is both our hardware and software for our functional operation day-to-day.
The body picks up the sensory information from our external surroundings as well as our internal experiences, and if we have unresolved traumas and trapped energies in our bodies, our sensory data will be obscured and our conscious brain cannot make decisions or take action in our best interest.
It's like trying to drive with a broken or muddy windshield. You might be able to see through it enough to get by, but your vision is obscured and you might not be able to respond to situations as effectively.
