Individuals with ADHD and executive functioning difficulties typically have low self-awareness, low self-esteem, and harbor a lot of anger, frustration, and sometimes even hate toward themselves. It is important to remember that ADHD, along with other mental "disorders," are natural variances in our species' way of being. What causes us to struggle in our modern, capitalistic societies are traits that once helped us survive as hunter-gatherers. In our modern lives those with ADHD can become aware of their strengths, challenges, and values, which can them develop self-acceptance, self-esteem. This, in turn, can lead to better self-regulation and motivation, which then leads to greater ease in day-to-day life, and greater progress toward goals.
